Philosophy of taking pictures

Sharing an emotion

As a beginner you may ask what photography is about. People like to preserve specific events like weddings or birthday parties. Others like to play with  innovative technology. I like both but over the years I more and more feel happy by sucessfully telling a good story or sharing an emotion or mood.

Sometimes I'm really desperate when I compare the impression of my shoots with what I have felt in the specific moment, when this photo has been taken. Needless to say that this is the best motivation to improve my skills.

Telling stories

You may wonder about the relation between story telling and  photography? To be more specific:
Firstly this is about portraiture. It's truly fascinating and compelling to read a life story in someones face. And when it comes to retaining this story, it's the most challenging ambition in photography.

Secondly I have always loved surrealistic painting. I especially admire Salvador Dali's work. Sometimes provocative but always imaginative.

I have to admit that I'm still a novice.

Shooting a picture

Before starting to learn how to photograph, I had to learn how to see. An experienced photographer carefully plans his intentions, arranges the scenario and the perspectives, calculates the impact of lightning, aperture and exposure and knows how all of these parameters will influence and affect the viewer. Sometimes all these decisions have to be made in a split-second. I am still learning to see.
